Every weekend in the fall, thousands of high school football teams line up and take their shot at prep glory. The Sunday morning Prep Tracker is your final stop for the names, numbers and scores that mattered to Ohio State's recruiting efforts.
DEMARIO McCALL INJURED, AGAIN
Demario McCall missed the first two games of his senior season with an ankle injury. He might see more time on the shelf with a shoulder bruise he suffered in the second quarter against North Olmsted. From The Chronicle Telegram:
McCall rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns before leaving the game with a bone bruise in his shoulder midway through the second quarter, but the Rangers kept the pressure on and came away with a 44-21 victory.
“It’s just a bruise right now my trainer told me,” McCall said with his right arm in a sling. “So he told me to get some ice tonight and see how it feels tomorrow.”
[...]
“These injuries are hunting me like I did something wrong,” McCall said. “What’d I do wrong, man? I’m just trying to get out here and play and grind … that’s all.”
McCall spoke with cleveland.com about his injury:
Before the injury McCall was on his way to another big game.
It didn’t take McCall long to show why the Buckeyes offered him a college scholarship. On the first play of the game, he zipped through the line, cut to the outside and sprinted 68 yards for a touchdown.
North Ridgeville still defeated North Olmsted 44-21 with McCall in street clothes for the second half.
GEORGE HILL WAS NASTY
@11W Be sure to check out @Ayooo_George highlights from last night. He was nasty!
— Jason McElhaney (@JasonMac37) October 3, 2015
Jason McElhaney, thanks for the suggestion.
The video does not give Hill's performance its justice. Below you will find an attempt to describe his work with words.
George Hill was tired of losing and made sure his Hubbard Eagles did not lose for the third-straight game. Hill rushed for 261 yards, 13.7 ypc and scored 4 touchdowns (3 rushing) in Hubbard's 35-14 win over Niles. A recap of Hill's game from wkbn.com:
In the first quarter, Hill broke free of the Red Dragons’ defense, taking the ball 81 yards for the score.
[...]
The Eagles would again turn to Hill, this time through the air when Cam Ingram hit him from 32 yards out, tying the game at 14.
With seconds remaining in the half, it was Hill again taking the ball and running away from the entire Red Dragon defense, 64 yards for the touchdown.
[...]
In the fourth, it was Hill once again finding the endzone to make it 35-14.
CLARK, SIBLEY AND ARCHBISHOP HOBAN CONTINUE WINNING WAYS
Like five other teams before them, Walsh Jesuit was no match for Danny Clark, Todd Sibley and the talented Archbishop Hoban team.
Clark's highlights of the game per highschoolsports.cleveland.com:
The turning point of the game came with the Knights (6-0 overall, 1-0 NCL) leading 6-0 in the second quarter. Quarterback Danny Clark hit wide receiver Jonah Morris for a 45-yard touchdown pass with 3:42 remaining for Hoban’s first touchdown of the night.
[...]
The Knights ended the first half with another touchdown after a defensive stop gave them the ball back with just under two minutes left. Clark found Blake Bishop on a 2-yard pass to give Archbishop a 27-0 lead going to halftime.
Clark threw one more touchdown pass, this time a 9-yard strike to Tyler Gilchrist on the first play of the fourth quarter to provide the final score of 48-7. It was the third touchdown pass of the game for the Ohio State commit, who also completed 11 of 19 passes for 208 yards.
Not to be outdone Todd Sibley scored on an 80-yard scamper in the third quarter. He finished the game with 135 yards and averaged 11.3 yards per carry. Will Sibley be as good as fellow Akron native Beanie Wells? One can hope.
Archbishop Hoban has outscored its opponents 222-22 this season. That is an average score of 37-4.
BRUCE JUDSON PLAYS FIRST GAME IN THE GREAT STATE OF OHIO
Judson's first game in Ohio did not end to his liking. His Cocoa (FL) team traveled to Cleveland to play Lakewood St. Edward and lost 14-24 Saturday afternoon. Judson didn't have the best game throwing the ball, but he did have success running. From floridatoday.com:
...Cocoa had the ball in the hands of quarterback Bruce Judson. The Ohio State commit didn’t disappoint in his first game in Ohio, taking it 61 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the drive to cut the St. Edward lead to 17-14.
Judson ran for 203 yards on 31 carries and Gardner had four rushes for 49 yards along with several big plays on defense.
“Those are the guys we count on,” Wilkinson said. “They made plays when we needed them to make plays. I just wish they could have made a few more.”
ANOTHER WEEK AND ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT FOR AUSTIN MACK
Mack rushed for 53 yards (13.3 ypc) had three receptions for 42 yards and had a punt return for a touchdown. His team, Bishop Luers, defeated Fort Wayne South Side 56-12. Video highlight of Mack's punt return touchdown.
