Before descending upon Columbus, the members of Select '17 have one final shot at glory under the Friday night lights.

FIRST OF MANY

After opening the season with four-straight wins over nationally ranked out-of-state opponents, Las Vegas, Nevada, Bishop Gorman played its first game of the season against Nevada competition on Friday night. The Gaels rolled to a 42-0 win over Bonanza behind two touchdown passes from Ohio State commit Tate Martell and a defense that surrendered only six yards of total offense in the first half.

The game also marked the season debut of Buckeyes' pledge Tyjon Lindsey, who injured his collarbone in a preseason scrimmage after returning to Bishop Gorman from a brief stint at Centennial, California.

He and Martell combined for 2,000 yards and 33 touchdowns the past two seasons, and seemingly picked up right where they left off on Friday evening. The duo, playing together for the first time since committing to Ohio State over the summer, connected on a 40-yard touchdown to open the scoring and then a 30-yard touchdown on the very next drive.

Bishop Gorman plays one last national opponent next week when it hosts Ohio State commit Trevon Grimes and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, St. Thomas Aquinas. The highly-anticipated matchup will be televised on Friday, Sept. 30, at 10 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

ON THE MEND

Cornerback commit Amir Riep has played all of six quarters this season for Cincinnati Colerain after tweaking his hamstring in the second quarter of the Cardinal's win over St. Xavier earlier this month. He's been held out the team's last three games, but hopes to return to the field for next week's game against Mason.

Time Warner SportsChannel's Harrison Sanford caught up with Riep late in the fourth-quarter of Colerain's 52-7 win over Sycamore on Thursday night.

"It's a blessing to be able to join them," Riep said of Ohio State. "I just can't wait."

Colerain, ranked No. 14 in the country by USA TODAY Sports, is allowing just a smidgen over 10 points per game. Getting an All-Ohio talent like Riep back in the lineup will only make the defense that much more difficult to navigate.

MR. EVERYTHING

Quarterback Brendon White seems to do it all for Olentangy Liberty. But on a night when he was relegated to playing cornerback for just a few series before succumbing to a sprained ankle, White was forced to watch helplessly as the Patriots held on for a 33-28 win over Pickerington North.

The victory would not have been possible if it weren't for a spectacular play on 4th-and-17 from the North 32-yard line with just over two minutes remaining in the contest.

Trailing by a point, sophomore quarterback Mitchell Okuley — filling in for White — threw complete to receiver Will Fowler at the 15-yard line. Fowler immediately lateraled the ball to running back Johnny Wiseman, who ran it in for the game-winning touchdown.
