The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Burney is considered the ninth-best safety and No. 107 overall prospect in the Class of 2018. He holds offers from programs like Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan and Tennessee, but said Ohio State is certainly in the mix for his services.
“They treat me like family,” Burney told Eleven Warriors. “I loved it the last time I was up there, so getting back is a must.”
Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano recently paid Burney a visit at his school, and the meeting left quite the impression.
“Coach Schiano is truthful and straight up, and he was basically saying that they think I can anchor the defense at safety,” Burney said.
As one of the top juniors in the country, Burney was invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl National Combine. He competed in drills like the 40-yard dash, shuttle run and vertical jump.
“It was awesome,” Burney said. “Competing with some of the best talent in the country and seeing where I measure up with them, and also validating all the work I put in.”
