For the first time in the history of 247Sports' recruiting rankings — which began in 2010 — an Ohioan stands above the rest.

The recruiting service updated its rankings for the Class of 2019 on Thursday, putting Olentangy Orange five-star defensive end Zach Harrison as it's new No.1 prospect. He replaced California five-star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux.

From 247Sports Director of Scouting Barton Simmons:

In a great year for defensive ends, Harrison separates himself with his unique frame, freakish athleticism (verified 4.62 40-yard dash, 36-inch vertical) and film to match. He's still raw and there is a lot of room for growth as a player, but we're happy to be on someone with those physical traits.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Harrison recorded 35 tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks to lead the Pioneers to the state playoffs last season. He also added nine catches for 173 yards and four touchdowns as a receiver, which caused quite the mismatch with undersized high school cornerbacks.

Harrison is considered the top-rated player in the state and No. 4 prospect nationally in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, which combines the rankings from 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. Louisiana five-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher is the country's top recruit in those rankings, which are used to determine the champion at the end of the cycle.
