Yesterday was Ohio State's first one-day camp of the summer, and June is slated to be one of the bigger months on the recruiting trail as the new early official visit period winds down. Even though the majority of the fireworks are expected to come later in the month, Ohio State has already reclaimed the top spot in the Big Ten's recruiting rankings.
TEAM | COMMITS | 4 & 5-STAR | SCORE | CONF. RANK | NAT. RANK |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
OHIO STATE | 9 | 8 | 183.19 | No. 1 | No. 12 |
MICHIGAN | 10 | 5 | 182.17 | No. 2 | No. 14 |
PENN STATE | 9 | 7 | 174.80 | No. 3 | No. 17 |
WISCONSIN | 10 | 2 | 158.03 | No. 4 | No. 21 |
MICHIGAN STATE | 10 | 2 | 156.05 | No. 5 | No. 22 |
The Buckeyes and Wolverines have been going back and forth a bit for the conference's top spot, but on Saturday Jim Harbaugh lost a commitment from four-star Florida athlete Te'Cory Couch. Michigan still has more commitments for the 2019 class, but the Buckeyes are now back on top.
Ohio State is scheduled to host a number of top targets later in June – including five-star defensive end Zach Harrison – and the expectation is for a few more top prospects to hop on board this month.
Penn State has seen its recruiting surge over the last few weeks, and James Franklin should once again have the Nittany Lions toward the top of the conference despite a smaller class. The Badgers and Spartans round out the top-five, but Ohio State is doing its best to flip Wisconsin quarterback commit Graham Mertz.
The new recruiting calendar has brought significant changes across the country. Official visits are taking place earlier than ever and teams can now be put in the tough position of accepting commitments in the summer before seeing how a player develops in the fall.
Ohio State's pace may seem a bit slower than in previous classes, but Urban Meyer has the Buckeyes atop the conference yet again.
