Jack Sawyer, who has always been very good, takes his place at the top of the 2021 class.
Ohio State defensive end commit Jack Sawyer, who was recently named to MaxPreps' All-American Second Team for the 2021 class, is now the No. 1 player in the country after ESPN dropped its ESPN300 ratings.
Sawyer isn't rated as the top player in the country by any of the three recruiting services – No. 2 for ESPN, No. 3 for 247Sports and No. 3 by Rivals – but his composite rating remains No. 1 because of his consistency near the top of those ratings.
The prospect he jumped Wednesday, Washington defensive tackle J.T. Tuimoloau, was rated No. 1 for the entirety of the 2021 cycle until ESPN rated him No. 50 overall, dropping him to No. 9 overall in composite ratings. Tuimoloau is rated No. 1 by 247Sports and No. 2 by Rivals.
The rating jump is a good change for Sawyer, who dropped to No. 3 overall by 247Sports earlier this week.
No one has ever claimed ESPN to be the most reliable source for football recruiting ratings, but the service rated Kyle McCord No. 35 overall, Jayden Ballard No. 37 overall and Ben Christman No. 111 overall.
