Sonny Styles will join Ohio State a year early.

The five-star in-state 2023 safety/linebacker commit has received permission from Pickerington Central athletic department to reclassify from the 2023 class to 2022, according to ThisWeek Newspapers' Jarrod Ulrey.

Styles is scheduled to sign his National Letter of Intent on Dec. 15, the first day of the early signing period. When he reaches the next level, Styles could play either safety or linebacker.

Styles committed to OSU on Nov. 13 and has quickly turned into one of the Buckeyes' biggest peer recruiters on the recruiting trail. His high school season ended in a regional finals loss.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound safety is the first Ohio State recruit to reclassify since Quinn Ewers reclassified from 2022 to 2021. Ewers has since entered the transfer portal

Since Styles will now be considered a 2022 prospect, he is now the sixth in-state player OSU will sign, a list that includes Avery Henry, Gabe Powers, C.J. Hicks, Tegra Tshabola and Jyaire Brown. He is the second five-star to join the class, with Hicks being the other.

Styles is the son of former OSU linebacker Lorenzo Styles Sr., and the brother of current Notre Dame wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr. Who knows if Styles will be ready to contribute right away or not, but if he can, his first collegiate game could come on Sept. 3, 2022, against Notre Dame and his brother.
