Ohio State’s highest priority remaining 2023 running back target is no longer planning on taking an official visit to Columbus this summer.

Five-star Florida prospect Richard Young announced Monday evening he’ll no longer be making the trek to Columbus on his originally scheduled visit of June 24.

One would think that would spell disaster for the Buckeyes’ hopes of converting on their longtime coveted running back target, but shortly after he canceled his visit, Young sent out another tweet saying the Buckeyes are still in consideration for him.

Mixed messages from the talented teenager aside, OSU was already thought to be falling behind in Young’s recruitment to the likes of southern schools, and this latest development doesn’t to anything to sway that thinking.

Ohio State has landed a running back commitment already in the current class in four-star Florida running back Mark Fletcher, and although OSU would consider taking another tailback, it likely will only take Fletcher in 2023 if it can’t land an elite running back such as Young or Georgia product Justice Haynes.

Delane honored by OSU offer

When 2025 Maryland defensive back Faheem Delane was told he was getting a full scholarship offer to Ohio State on May 16, he could hardly contain his excitement.

“I was really excited, because Ohio State, that’s definitely one of the DBUs,” Delane told Eleven Warriors. “Jeff Okudah, Marshon Lattimore and Malik Hooker all came from there. So many more in the history of the program with DBs going to the NFL. To get that offer was just an honor.”

OSU safeties coach Perry Eliano presented the opportunity to Delane, who was offered alongside his high school teammate, four-star 2024 linebacker Aaron Chiles

“It was fantastic because last year we used to talk about this all the time, man,” Delane said of getting an offer the same time as Chiles. “For both of us to get such a big time offer, it’s something that we just dreamed of. It came true.”

Eliano stopping at Delane’s school was the first time the pair had talked face-to-face.

“I wasn’t really surprised, just more amazed,” Delane said of being offered by OSU after his freshman year. “It’s just crazy how fast it happened at such an early age.”

The 6-foot-2, 182-pound Delane plays strong safety at the moment for Our Lady Good Counsel High School (Olney, Maryland), but may be a better fit at cornerback at the next level.

“I like to blitz off the edge, play man-to-man and zone, I love to do it all, but mostly I love to blitz off the edge and play man because my best qualities are just sticking with receivers and covering them,” Delane said. “Either way, safety or cornerback, I definitely feel comfortable at both positions. I think I could play both at a high level.”

Various recruits lock in official visits

A flood of recruits in the 2023 class, both commitments and targets alike, took to social media Tuesday to announce their official visit dates to OSU.

Below is a roundup of each recruit that announced their planned visit on Tuesday, sorted by date. OSU commits are bolded.
