One week after picking up an Ohio State offer, Ohio 2023 cornerback Jermaine Mathews has locked in an official visit to Columbus.
Mathews told Eleven Warriors Tuesday he’ll make a return trip to OSU on June 17, the same weekend high-priority targets Brandon Inniss, Noah Rogers, Jayden Bonsu and others are expected to be on campus.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Mathews dazzled the Buckeyes with an impressive camp performance on June 1, bolstered by a small cheering section of Ohio State players in one-on-one drills. Ohio State coaches aren’t the only people Mathews has impressed since, as he is now a four-star recruit rather than a three-star recruit in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Upon receiving his OSU offer, the Winton Woods standout was ecstatic because he had grown up rooting for the Buckeyes.
“It felt really good,” Mathews told Eleven Warriors after receiving his offer. “It’s really hard to explain because it’s something you’ve been waiting on for so long. And then when it happened, it’s just like, wow. (Day) said I earned it.”
His recruitment will likely move fast, although he’s cautioned his original commitment date of July 4 may be pushed back. Mathews has already started taking official visits, making a trip to Cincinnati last weekend. Kentucky, Pittsburgh, recent offer Oklahoma and a few others are in contention for his commitment, but securing an official visit puts Ohio State in a good position to land the Cincinnati product.
Aguero releases top four and sets commitment date
A priority 2023 safety target for Ohio State is down to four schools. Four-star Massachusetts prospect Joenel Aguero announced a final four Monday of Ohio State, Florida, Georgia and Miami. The 6-foot, 195-pound safety also set a commitment date of July 23 after previously planning to wait until the fall to commit.

Naturally, that means he’s changed his official visits around, too. Aguero will now take his official visit to Columbus on June 17 instead of November.
While OSU is still a contender to land the nation’s second-rated safety, Georgia is seen as the favorite for Aguero.
The Buckeyes have two safeties committed to the 2023 class in Malik Hartford and Cedrick Hawkins and would like to take at least three. Five-star Caleb Downs is their top remaining target, but Aguero, Bonsu and Daemon Fagan are also options.
Glenn picks up OSU offer
Ohio State has identified another target in its search for a 2023 quarterback.
Even though four-star Tennessee quarterback Brock Glenn did not end up camping at Ohio State this week as he originally planned to, he still received an offer from Ohio State on Tuesday.

Glenn’s recruiting stock has risen in recent months after he earned a berth in the Elite 11 Finals. He currently holds more than 30 Division I offers, with Auburn, Florida State, TCU, Virginia and Mississippi State being linked to him the heaviest.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Glenn is the second 2023 quarterback to be offered by OSU this month. Four-star Baylor commit Austin Novosad was offered by the Buckeyes after working out at Ohio State’s June 1 camp.
Glenn is ranked as the 364th-best prospect and 20th-ranked quarterback in the composite rankings for the 2023 cycle. He completed 97 of 155 passes for 1,576 yards and 23 touchdowns with nine interceptions last season for Lausanne Collegiate School (Memphis, Tennessee). He also ran 31 times for 161 yards with three touchdowns.
OSU targets Reed and Patt Henry commit to Clemson
After holding its first summer official visit weekend ever, Clemson has taken two 2023 Ohio State targets off the board. Four-star offensive tackle Ian Reed and three-star tight end Olsen Patt Henry both announced their commitments to Clemson on Tuesday.

Reed’s commitment to Clemson only further heightens the need for OSU to land one or both of Olaus Alinen and Samson Okunlola. At tight end, four-star Riley Williams will take an official visit to OSU this weekend, giving Kevin Wilson a prime opportunity to take a swing at landing one of the Buckeyes’ top targets to pair with Ty Lockwood in the 2023 class.
