One of Ohio State’s top 2024 linebacker targets may or may not be among the many expected visitors on campus for spring football next month.
But four-star Tennessee linebacker Edwin Spillman remains very high on Ohio State. Regardless of whether a spring visit occurs or not, the 6-foot-1, 216-pound prospect told Eleven Warriors OSU will be one of the schools he makes an official visit to this summer.
“It’s going to be difficult (to visit in the spring), but yes I want to,” Spillman told Eleven Warriors. “I am currently busy with a lot of stuff right now. I will be taking an official visit though this summer.”
Spillman had a monster junior season for Lipscomb Academy (Nashville, Tennessee), helping lead the team to a 13-0 season and a state title. He was coached by former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, who later left to become the head coach at UAB. Spillman recorded 101 tackles (14.5 for loss), two sacks and six pass breakups last season.
The Tennessee prospect has made multiple visits to Ohio State, taking a gameday visit for the Michigan game in November, visiting for OSU’s spring game in 2022 and attending camps and a game in 2021.
“I had fun talking with the coaches,” Spillman said after he visited OSU in November. “The coaches always show me and my family a lot of love. And I had a great time hanging out with the family and watching football. Nothing can beat that.”
The Volunteers will be tough to beat in Spillman’s recruitment, but OSU has a chance to make it a competitive race.
Davon Mitchell puts OSU in top 11
One of Ohio State’s top tight end targets in the 2025 class has started to narrow down his recruitment. Five-star California tight end Davon Mitchell released a top 11 schools list Friday consisting of Ohio State, Tennessee, Penn State, South Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas A&M, USC and Georgia.

Mitchell picked up an OSU offer on June 28 and was ecstatic that the Buckeyes were interested in him. He had a terrific sophomore season at Allen High School (Allen, Texas) before transferring to Los Alamitos High School (Los Alamitos, California). For Allen, he caught 33 passes for 726 yards with nine touchdowns in 2022.
“It felt really good,” Mitchell told Eleven Warriors last summer of the offer. “Ohio State was one of my dream schools, so I always wanted to play for them. They’ll definitely be one of my options. My dad’s side of the family, they’re really big Ohio State fans, so I grew up watching it a lot.”
Charles Lester to visit OSU April 1
Five-star Florida cornerback Charles Lester had already confirmed he’ll take an official visit to Ohio State on June 16-18, but that won’t be the only trip to Columbus the 2024 prospect will make this year. Per 247Sports, Lester will also visit OSU during the spring on April 1.
It will be Lester’s first visit to OSU since Sept. 24, when he was in Ohio Stadium for the Wisconsin game.
“He said it was awesome and different than a lot of places he’s been at,” Lester’s high school coach Josh Smithers told Eleven Warriors last fall of his OSU visit. “The energy and environment were great and he said the fans were crazy and loud. He was really impressed by the whole atmosphere when he got there and when he left. He has a great relationship with coach (Tim) Walton, who’s done a great job recruiting him.”
In January, Lester put out a top five of Ohio State, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
