Ohio State will get its answer on its top remaining wide receiver target in the 2024 class in nearly two weeks.
Four-star Missouri wideout Jeremiah McClellan has set a commitment date for Aug. 13. McClellan released his final five schools on July 16, including Ohio State, Missouri, Oregon, Georgia and LSU among his finalists.
Heading into the commitment, Ohio State sits in a good position for McClellan and has long been considered the favorite, but Oregon and Missouri have made a late push. McClellan would pair nicely alongside OSU five-star wide receiver 2024 commits Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham, and the Buckeyes will still try to flip new offer Chance Robinson from Miami regardless of whether they land McClellan or not.
“With Ohio State it’s all about coach Brian Hartline, coach Devin Jordan and coach Ryan Day,” McClellan told On3. “They prepare wide receivers for the NFL which is a big factor. They win, they feature their guys and they get receivers to the league.”
McClellan took his official visit on June 9 and has visited Columbus several other times.
As a junior, McClellan caught 61 passes for 1,103 yards with 18 total touchdowns (13 receiving). He was also Christian Brothers College's (St. Louis, Missouri) punt returner and kick returner last season, returning 13 punts for 433 yards.
Greer enjoys OSU visit Friday
One of Ohio State’s top emerging targets in the 2026 class had a productive trip to campus on Friday, as Ohio offensive tackle Sam Greer attended the Buckeyes’ SummerFest event last week.
“I had a free day, so I figured I should enjoy (a visit) with my family,” Greer said after attending.
Greer said he spoke with Justin Frye and Ryan Day on his visit.
“It went pretty good,” Greer said of his discussion with the coaches. “Coach Frye, we have a good relationship. He’s a cool guy.”
Greer said he plans on returning to OSU for a game visit when the Buckeyes host Penn State on Oct. 21. The 6-foot-8, 290-pound Greer was offered by OSU on April 5 and projects to start at left tackle this season for Archbishop Hoban. Frye has visited Greer for a couple of his practices and the Ohio offensive tackle estimates the pair catch up once a month.
“The biggest thing I’ve learned from him is to compete and to always give 100 percent,” Greer said.
While Greer has plenty of time between now and his class’ National Signing Day, he’s eyeing a short recruitment process. He said his top two schools as of now are Ohio State and Michigan.
“I’m thinking about either the end of this season, maybe going into next summer,” Greer said of his recruitment. “I like (OSU) because they usually always do good and go far, and seem to have that winning mentality.”
2024 commits get official offers
Not only was Tuesday the first day 2025 recruits were able to be directly contacted by college coaches, but it was also the first day 2024 prospects could receive formal scholarship offers. While offers are obviously informally given much earlier to prospects, nearly all of OSU’s 19 commits took to social media throughout the day to post their official offer to OSU. Some of those tweets can be found below.
