The state of Ohio’s top uncommitted prospect in the 2025 class will announce his college decision next week.
Five-star Shaker Heights safety Trey McNutt announced a commitment date for July 19 and will choose from a final five of Ohio State, Oregon, Florida, USC and Texas A&M.

Besides OSU commit Faheem Delane, McNutt has been the most coveted target at safety this cycle for Tim Walton and Matt Guerrieri. He's ranked the No. 1 safety and No. 19 overall player in the 2025 class, per 247Sports’ composite rankings, and has been a frequent visitor to Ohio State over the past year. His connection to OSU is well-known, as McNutt is the son of former Buckeyes defensive back Richard McNutt.
That said, McNutt didn’t take an official visit to OSU in June and has been trending to Oregon for the past few weeks. It would be a smart move to bet on the field over the Buckeyes at this point. But even if McNutt does commit to Oregon, his recruitment wouldn’t necessarily be over, as there’s still a chance he’d take an official visit to OSU sometime in the fall.

If McNutt does go elsewhere, Messiah Delhomme will become the top safety target still on the board for the Buckeyes. Delhomme took an official visit to OSU in June and is expected to make a commitment sometime in August.
OSU currently has three safeties committed in the 2025 class: Cody Haddad, Delane and DeShawn Stewart.
Vernell Brown III to commit July 23
Another five-star Ohio State target in the 2025 class will also announce his commitment later this month. Five-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III has set a commitment date for July 23 and will choose from a final four of Ohio State, Florida State, Florida and Miami.

Brown took an official visit to OSU on May 31 and enjoyed his experience in Columbus.
“As far as the visit goes, I really loved everything about it,” Brown told Eleven Warriors after his trip. “I can say that for both me and my family. OSU has done a great job showing me and my family why they are the program they are and show the way they do things. It’s a really good program and it really opened my eyes on this OV.”
Despite the successful visit, the tea leaves regarding Brown are also trending away from Ohio State. Brown is a Florida legacy and all signs point to the 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect joining the Gators’ 2025 class.
OSU has three wide receivers committed in the current class and could take either one or two more, but it doesn’t look likely that will be Brown. The top remaining candidates to round out the Buckeyes’ 2025 receiver class are Daylan McCutcheon, Phillip Bell and Preston Bowman.
Anthony Rogers planning to make final decision in fall
Once Jordon Davison and Ohio State went their separate ways last month, the door opened up for another prospect to become the Buckeyes’ third running back in the 2025 class.
One primary target for Carlos Locklyn is four-star Alabama running back commit Anthony Rogers, who took an unofficial visit to Columbus this summer and plans on returning in the fall for an official visit. Per Rivals, Rogers is also considering Auburn and Georgia and plans on making a final decision on where he’ll sign later this year.
"It was nice to be up there and getting to talk to some of the coaches, meet with the coaches and continue to build my relationship with Coach Lock," Rogers told Rivals of OSU. "He's got his eye on me. He's been recruiting me since he was at Western Kentucky to Oregon and now at Ohio State. We've been building a relationship since eighth grade, so it's a pretty strong connection."
Rogers is ranked as the No. 110 overall player and No. 6 running back in the 2025 class.
