Before the dead period began on Thursday, Ryan Day and Ohio State’s staff weighed whether or not to have one more big recruiting event at the end of July.
OSU has done so in the past, even recently as it held a late summer event before the 2023 season, which resulted in the commitment of five-star 2026 wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. Ultimately, Day decided a temporary reprieve from the recruiting trail would be the best course of action for his staff.
“We talked about it a little bit, but we went four weekends in June and our staff didn’t have a day off for the month of June,” Day said Thursday. “I just feel like it was the right thing to do. I feel like where we are in recruiting right now is strong. We really busted our tail in June and I think right now it’s showing where we’re at right now. But I just felt like it was a good opportunity to get away a little bit and get a three-day weekend. We did that, came back refreshed and we’ll reassess it every year.”
The Buckeyes not holding a late July recruiting event raised a few eyebrows amongst OSU recruiting fans considering their top remaining target, David Sanders Jr., took visits to Nebraska and Tennessee last weekend instead. That’s not to say Sanders would have visited OSU if an event was held, or that Sanders didn’t have an open invitation to visit campus anyway despite there not being a big event if he wanted to, but it still prompted a few questions nonetheless. The Buckeyes did host a small handful of prospects for unofficial visits on July 25, including 2026 cornerbacks Elbert Hill and Jakob Weatherspoon.
OSU is still firmly in the thick of things for Sanders, who commits on Aug. 17. But following his Tennessee visit, the Volunteers appeared to have gained momentum in his recruitment. There could be plenty of twists and turns with Sanders’ recruitment over the next two weeks, though.
OSU offers 2027 RB David Gabriel Georges
Ohio State has offered another running back for the 2027 cycle.
Tennessee prospect David Gabriel Georges picked up an offer from OSU running backs coach Carlos Locklyn on Thursday, becoming the seventh tailback offered by the Buckeyes in the 2027 class.

Georges has six Division I offers, also including Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Syracuse and Charlotte. The 6-foot, 185-pound running back is from Quebec, Canada originally, but will play at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ohio State freshman tight end Max LeBlanc is an alumnus of Baylor School, while Georges is currently teammates with 2025 running back Shekai Mills-Knight. OSU is still considering Mills-Knight as a possible third running back for the 2025 class along with Anthony Rogers.
Carson Sneed to commit Monday

Four-star 2026 tight end Carson Sneed announced Thursday he’ll commit on Monday and choose from a final five of Ohio State, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss and Louisville.

Sneed was offered by OSU tight ends coach Keenan Bailey in March following a visit to Columbus. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect is considered the No. 174 prospect and No. 8 tight end in the 2026 class per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
A few days ahead of his commitment, Tennessee is the likely destination for Sneed.
