Last Monday, Ohio State won its eighth national championship in a 42-20 win over Oregon. While not discounting Oregon or its season, Alabama may have been the bigger trophy. Taking down the SEC's bell cow in its own neighborhood was a monumental achievement in light of nationwide doubt about the Buckeyes' playoff berth. It was also some level of catharsis for Buckeye fans bedeviled by the SEC. The national championship was celebrated 12 days later in Arlington, but it may have been won in New Orleans.
