After Ezekiel Elliott bulldozed Oregon like a dilapidated crack house in the 2014 national championship game, the NCAA passed a bylaw eliminating his famous crop top look, which it saw as a competitive advantage.
Despite a social media campaign to rescind the law, Elliott ditched the crop top during his 2015 campaign. He finished with 1,821 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns.
Elliott then resurrected the crop top in suit form at the 2016 NFL Draft at which the Dallas Cowboys selected him as the No. 4 overall pick.
Though the NFL has a similar ban, it's not going to stop the Dallas Cowboys, who signed Elliott to a four-year, $24.9 million contract on Wednesday, from capitalizing on his established brand, which already includes a trademark of "Zeke's Crop Top Bar and Grill."
According to Newy Scruggs of Dallas–Fort Worth's NBC affiliate, the Cowboys will sell Elliott crop top t-shirts "very soon."
The newly signed $24.9 million back is now going to have his own Cowboys crop-top t-shirt, according to Cowboys Merchandising Limited president Bill Priakos.
He also told me Elliott’s jersey sales have been doing very well and the club is very happy for the rookie.
Expect those shirts to be a hot commodity. The article also notes Elliott's jersey sales are outpacing Jared Goff's and Carson Wentz's, who were the No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the draft.
