Ohio State is planning to replace the roof of its indoor football practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, according to a request for qualifications submitted to the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission on Monday.

The project comes with an estimated total budget of $3,236,055, including $2,608,405 in construction costs. Ohio State is currently in the process of seeking contractors for the project and plans to award the contract by November 2017, with a plan to begin the roof replacement in April 2018 and complete the renovation by September 2018.

According to the request for qualifications, the project may also include window replacement, the addition of skylights and additional ventilation and exhaust for the facility along with the roof replacement. The project will be coordinated with the football team and other teams who use the facility so as not to interfere with practice schedules.

This project will consist of sequenced re-roofing, removal, and replacement of a portion of the existing metal wall panel skin around the upper and intermediate roof that houses the indoor practice field inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Scope will include Installation of new a new PVC KEE, or TPO fully adhered roof retrofitted overtop of the existing standing seam metal roof and rigid insulation installed between the existing deck and new roof. Scope will also include design and installation of new gutters and downspouts, snow retention system, installation of new insulation inside of walls. Scope may include repair or replacement of worn out windows and may include adding skylights and possibly additional ventilation and exhaust for the facility. Scope may include some replacement of some interior metal wall panel as well.

The Work will need to be heavily coordinated with other occurring projects around the area, as well as to not interrupt Athletics practice schedules.

The Woody Hayes Athletic Center has undergone multiple renovations since it opened in 1987, including a $19.5 million renovation in 2007. A $2.5 million renovation including locker room upgrades and replacing the turf field in the indoor practice facility.

It was previously reported last month by Tom Knox of Columbus Business First that Ohio State was planning a $7.8 million renovation to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, which will be 90 percent funded by donor money.
