Bill Mallory, the winningest head coach in Indiana football history and an Ohio State assistant coach under Woody Hayes, died on Friday. at the age of 82.
Mallory suffered a brain injury from a fall on Tuesday, his son, Curt Mallory, said on Twitter. Despite emergency surgery, his condition never improved and he was admitted to hospice care on Thursday, where he died the following day.
After playing for Hayes at Miami University in the 1950s, Mallory joined Hayes' staff as a defensive assistant for three seasons between 1966-68, helping guide the Buckeyes to an undefeated, national championship season in 1968.
Mallory went on to be the head coach at Miami University, Colorado, Northern Illinois and Indiana and is the Hoosiers' all-time winningest head coach, compiling a 69-77-3 record during his time in Bloomington.
