After placing linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley on injured reserve, the New England Patriots had a roster opening that they used to sign former Ohio State defensive end/linebacker John Simon, the team announced.

Simon was originally a fourth round draft choice by the Baltimore Ravens back in 2013. He spent a few weeks on the practice squad for the Ravens before heading to Houston, where he spent three seasons.
After a stint with the Indianapolis Colts last year, during which he started nine games before being placed on injured reserve, he was released on September 1 and has not latched on with a team until now.
Simon joins Nate Ebner as Buckeyes currently on the Patriots roster.
