Freshman Tracker: Chris Olave Has a Career Day and Tyreke Smith Records a Tackle Against Michigan State

Wide receiver Chris Olave and defensive end Tyreke Smith put their names in the stat book and 10 other true freshmen saw action in Ohio State's 26-6 victory over Michigan State.

Olave made the most of his nine snaps as he hauled in a career-high two receptions for 41 yards against the Spartans. The Mission Hills alum also played on special teams and has seen the field in every game this season. Tight end Jeremy Ruckert had four offensive snaps and RB Master Teague saw action on kickoff returns. 

On the defensive side, Smith recorded a tackle from his defensive end position and now has 7 tackles for the season. The Cleveland native was on the Spartan Stadium grass for 13 snaps. Other freshmen to get playing time on defense were defensive tackle Tommy Togiai (10), defensive end Tyler Friday (7) and defensive tackle Taron Vincent (8). The four defensive players combined for 38 snaps against the Michigan State.

Six players helped out on special teams during the noon banger in East Lansing. Sevyn Banks was on several units as he played in his second consecutive game. Dallas Gant, Teradja Mitchell, K'Vaughan Pope, Josh Proctor, Master Teague and Olave were the other freshmen to earn playing time on special teams. This was the first game action for Teague since he played against Purdue.

In all, 22 freshmen have seen playing time this season, with 11 – Friday, Gant, Mitchell, Olave, Pope, Proctor, Ruckert, T. Smith, Teague, Togiai and Vincent – ineligible for redshirts as they've appeared in more than four games.
