“I want to inform everyone that I am okay and my recovery is going well.”
In his first social media post since he was shot in the face early Sunday morning, Garrett provided a positive update on his health and thanked Columbus Police, EMTs and the doctors and nurses who cared for him at the Wexner Medical Center, as well as his family and friends for their support as he recovers from his injuries.

Garrett was released from the hospital on Monday after he suffered what police described as a “through and through gunshot wound to the cheeks in his face” after he was shortly after midnight on Sunday. Garrett told Columbus Police that he was walking toward Chittenden and Grant Avenue when he observed a man and a woman he did not know “arguing and being aggressive”; after Garrett told the man to stop arguing with the woman, the man turned toward Garrett, pulled out a handgun and fired, hitting Garrett in the face.
Columbus Police have not yet identified a suspect in the shooting.
A senior, Garrett is a potential starter at defensive tackle for the Buckeyes whenever they are able to return to the field. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said in a statement on Monday that the football program “will continue to help him and his family any way we can to expedite his recovery.”
