Brian Hartline is one step closer to being named college football's top assistant coach.
Ohio State's wide receivers coach was named Tuesday as one of 15 semifinalists for the Broyles Award. Hartline is the only one of the 15 semifinalists who isn't an offensive or defensive coordinator.

Even though Hartline hasn't risen to the coordinator ranks yet – as he's still in just his third year as a full-time assistant coach – he's already established himself as arguably college football's best wide receivers coach, both on the field and on the recruiting trail.
On the field, Hartline has led the development of two of the nation's best wide receivers this year, Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, who both earned first-team All-Big Ten honors on Tuesday and who both rank in the top 12 nationally in receiving yards per game this season.
On the recruiting trail, Hartline has now signed or landed commitments from 10 wide receivers who are or were ranked among the top 100 prospects in their class – most recently, Emeka Egbuka, who's set to sign with Ohio State tomorrow as the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 9 overall prospect in the class of 2021.
As long as Hartline is leading the way, Ohio State looks poised to have elite receivers – thanks to his ability to both recruit and develop talent – year in and year out.
