Caleb Downs scores Ohio State’s first punt return touchdown since 2014.
The future is here.
Five-star freshman running back TreVeyon Henderson, the top-rated back in the 2021 recruiting class, made the first start of his young Ohio State career on Saturday against Tulsa.
Henderson appeared to begin the season as the No. 3 running back on the depth chart as he was the third running back to sub into the season opener against Minnesota after starter Miyan Williams and veteran Master Teague III.
It did not take Henderson long to showcase his game-breaking ability, taking just his third touch 70 yards for a touchdown in the season opener. By Ohio State's second game, Henderson had supplanted Teague on the depth chart, moving to the clear No. 2 spot.
Now, in just his third collegiate game, he appears to have earned the starting spot.
Henderson is the first Ohio State running back to start a game as a true freshman since J.K. Dobbins started in place of an injured Mike Weber to begin the 2017 season.
