C.J. Stroud is now the clear favorite to win the Heisman.
Following Ohio State's 56-7 destruction of Michigan State, the Buckeye quarterback has emerged as the clear Heisman Trophy favorite in the sportsbooks, vaulting to -200 or above according to most major oddsmakers.
Stroud current sits as a -200 favorite on Bovada and MGM, is -220 in Caesars sportsbook, and has odds up to -250 on SportsBetting.ag. Those numbers have an implied probability of between 66 percent and 72 percent that Stroud will win the Heisman.
For comparison's sake, Stroud was listed as a +125 favorite to win the Heisman Trophy last week, so his odds have jumped considerably following Saturday's performance, an implied probability of 44 percent.
The odds jump comes after a dominant performance from Stroud in which he threw for 432 yards and six touchdowns, completing 32 of 35 passes – a 91.4 completion percentage. Stroud also set a new Ohio State record with 17-consecutive completions.
Stroud's only real competition for the award appears to be Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, who saw his odds jump this weekend as well, after throwing for 559 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Arkansas on Saturday. Young currently has odds between +125 and +200 to win the Heisman. No other candidate has odds closer than +1600 in any major sportsbook.
The 2021 Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Saturday, Dec. 11.
