Garrett Wilson and Nicholas Petit-Frere are getting trees in Buckeye Grove.
The Ohio State wide receiver and left tackle were both named first-team All-Americans on Friday by the Football Writers Association of America, one of the five voting bodies that determines the consensus All-American teams.
Chris Olave also received second-team All-American honors from the FWAA.
Wilson, who was only a second-team All-Big Ten selection, was recognized by the FWAA as one of the three best wide receivers in college football this season (along with Pitt’s Jordan Addison and Purdue’s David Bell) after catching 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns during the regular season. He became the seventh receiver in Ohio State history to top 1,000 yards in a single season and the first player in school history to have three receiving touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in a single game when he accomplished that feat against Purdue.
Petit-Frere earned first-team All-American honors after starting at left tackle for Ohio State this season and leading the way up front in both pass protection and run blocking for the Buckeyes’ offense, which leads the nation with 45.5 points per game and 551.1 yards per game.
Olave, Petit-Frere and kicker Noah Ruggles were also named second-team All-Americans by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Thursday, while Ruggles was also named as a first-team All-American by ESPN earlier this week. An Ohio State player needs to be named a first-team All-American by just one major national organization to qualify for a tree in Buckeye Grove, so Wilson, Petit-Frere and Ruggles have all now met that standard.
The other three primary All-American teams will be announced next week as the Associated Press will release its All-American team on Monday, Sporting News will publish its All-Americans on Tuesday and the American Football Coaches Association will reveal its All-Americans on Wednesday.
