Eight Ohio State players earned AP All-American honors for the 2021 season.
While no Buckeyes were selected as first-team AP All-Americans, six Buckeyes were selected as second-team AP All-Americans – wide receivers Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, offensive linemen Nicholas Petit-Frere and Thayer Munford, defensive tackle Haskell Garrett and kicker Noah Ruggles – while quarterback C.J. Stroud and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba earned third-team honors.
With Olave, Wilson and Smith-Njigba all represented, Ohio State becomes the first school to ever have three wide receivers on the AP All-America teams. Adding in Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams, a first-team selection, the AP All-America team includes four wide receivers who played for the Buckeyes in 2020.
Ohio State’s eight total selections were also the most of any school.
While a Buckeye has to be named a first-team All-American to earn a tree in Buckeye Grove, three of the Buckeyes honored by the Associated Press have already done so, as Wilson and Petit-Frere were named first-team All-Americans by the FWAA while Ruggles was named a first-team All-American by ESPN.
