C.J. Stroud and TreVeyon Henderson have both been named finalists for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.
The standout Ohio State performers are two of five finalists for the honor, which will be given out for the fourth time annually at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala in January. Joining Stroud and Henderson as finalists are Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy and Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen.
Stroud, a redshirt freshman who finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting this season, threw for Stroud threw for 3,862 yards and 38 touchdowns in his first year as a starter for the Buckeyes, claiming the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Year, Quarterback of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors along the way.
Henderson, a true freshman running back for Ohio State in 2021, set multiple Buckeye records as a first-year performer. With 19 total touchdowns, Henderson set a new freshman record at Ohio State, and his 270 rushing yards against Tulsa in his very first start broke Archie Griffin's freshman rushing record.
Previous winners of the national Freshman of the Year honor include Clemson's Trevor Lawrence, Memphis's Kenneth Gainwell and Alabama's Will Anderson Jr.
