Haskell Garrett was named the 2021 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year on Wednesday.
The fifth-year Ohio State defensive tackle, who earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and second-team All-American recognition from the AP this season, is the first Buckeye to win the award, which has been give out annually since 2014.
Garrett led the Buckeyes with 5.5 sacks and was tied for the team lead with seven tackles for loss in the regular season. Garrett is part of an Ohio State rush defense that ranks 19th in the country with an average allowance of 118.5 yards per game through 12 games.
“We congratulate Haskell on an outstanding season,” said Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Chairman Jesse Sapolu in a release. “His accomplishments are a source of great pride for the Polynesian community.”
