Ohio State came up just two players short of having enough players on this year’s initial 53-man rosters to field a full team of Buckeyes.

Former Ohio State players who were released on Tuesday included Wyatt Davis, who lasted just one year with the Minnesota Vikings despite being selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. Longtime NFL long snapper Jake McQuaide was among the Dallas Cowboys’ initial cuts for the second year in a row, but like last year, he will be brought back once several players are moved to injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
The full list of Buckeyes who were waived or released by NFL teams this week:
- OLB Rashod Berry (Jaguars)
- P Drue Chrisman (Bengals)
- DT Jashon Cornell (Lions) – waived/injured
- G Wyatt Davis (Vikings)
- TE Jake Hausmann (Commanders)
- DE Jalyn Holmes (Giants)
- WR Austin Mack (49ers)
- LS Jake McQuaide (Cowboys)
- WR C.J. Saunders (Panthers)
- CB Kendall Sheffield (Texans) – waived/injured
- WR Binjimen Victor (Ravens)
Former Ohio State defensive end Chase Young remains with the Washington Commanders but will begin the season on their Physically Unable to Perform list, which will force him to miss at least the first four games of the season, as he continues to work his way back from the ACL tear he suffered last season. Former Ohio State defensive end Tyreke Smith was placed on injured reserve by the Seattle Seahawks due to a hip injury, which will sideline him for his entire rookie season.
(Update: The San Francisco 49ers waived Trey Sermon on Wednesday, one day after setting their initial 53-man roster, but McQuaide was re-signed by the Cowboys, keeping the total number of Buckeyes on 53-man rosters at 51. Victor and Chrisman were brought back to the Ravens’ and Bengals’ practice squads, respectively, while Cornell and Sheffield reverted to injured reserve with the Lions and Texans after they went unclaimed on waivers.)
