Brian Hartline has no plans to leave Ohio State for Cincinnati or any other school.
Following a report by Football Scoop’s John Brice on Wednesday that Hartline would interview for Cincinnati’s head coaching job as early as Thursday, Hartline tweeted Thursday afternoon that his “heart is at Ohio State and I do not have any plans to go anywhere else.”
I am aware of the speculation surrounding my name connected to other vacant coaching positions and appreciate all of the support, but right now my heart is at Ohio State and I do not have any plans to go anywhere else. #GoBucks

Hartline is currently in his fifth season as Ohio State’s wide receivers coach after being promoted into that role in 2018. He added the title of passing game coordinator in January, when he received a raise that brought his salary to $950,000, after his former Ohio State teammate Marcus Freeman pursued Hartline as a potential addition to his coaching staff at Notre Dame.
A former Ohio State wide receiver himself, Hartline has spent his entire coaching career so far at OSU, initially joining the staff as a quality control coach in 2017.
When Hartline was asked last November about the possibility of eventually leaving Ohio State for a bigger job, Hartline said that would be a difficult decision for him to make, saying “it almost chokes me up” just thinking about leaving.
“The conversations I have with my wife, we can’t imagine leaving the guys in the room,” Hartline said at the time. “Even to this day, like it gives me chills, trying to walk in and tell them I’m not gonna be in the room anymore. That would be really hard to do, and I don’t think I can do that. Never say never, but it almost chokes me up now. I couldn’t even imagine going in there and looking at Marvin (Harrison Jr.) and (Emeka Egbuka) and Jayden (Ballard) and telling them I’m not gonna be here anymore.”
Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline was asked today how hard it would be to leave OSU for another job as his name continues to become popular in the industry.
