Brian Hartline was hospitalized following a UTV accident Sunday morning but says he is “doing well.”

Hartline and a friend unaffiliated with Ohio State were taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after crashing a UTV side-by-side vehicle on his property early Sunday morning, Ohio State confirmed in a statement Sunday afternoon.

Hartline was released from the hospital early afternoon Monday, an Ohio State spokesperson confirmed.

Shortly after news of his hospitalization became public, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach tweeted that he is “doing well.”

According to the incident report filed by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, which Eleven Warriors obtained Monday via a public records request, Hartline was found lying on the ground in front of a UTV which had rolled over after police were dispatched to his home following a 911 call at approximately 1:22 a.m. Sunday morning.

Hartline admitted to medics on the scene that he had been drinking. A deputy dispatched to the hospital “immediately noticed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” upon arriving at his room. Per the incident report, Hartline “was unconscious and unable to be interviewed due to medication administered by the hospital.”

The incident report listed a possible charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol/drugs but stated “it was unable to be determined if a criminal offense occurred at this time.” Per Ohio state law, a person can be charged with operating a vehicle under the influence on their own property, though no charges had been filed against Hartline as of Monday afternoon.

A Delaware County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said Monday afternoon that the investigation is still ongoing.

Hartline is entering his first season as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator after being promoted in January to replace Kevin Wilson, who is now the head coach at Tulsa. The former Ohio State wide receiver is entering his sixth season as the Buckeyes’ wide receivers coach.
