Eight Ohio State football players have been named Iron Buckeyes for their performance in offseason workouts.

Ohio State announced Thursday that wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, running back Chip Trayanum, tight end Cade Stover, linebackers Tommy Eichenberg and Cody Simon, safety Lathan Ransom and defensive tackle Ty Hamilton make up this year’s class of Iron Buckeyes, who were recognized for their “unquestionable training dedication, determination, discipline, toughness, leadership and grind.”

The Iron Buckeyes are selected by Ohio State’s strength and conditioning staff and awarded to recognize Ohio State’s best performers during winter and summer workouts.

Stover and Eichenberg are both Iron Buckeyes for the second year in a row. Both of them were also selected captains last year when five of Ohio State’s six captains – also including Kamryn Babb, Tyler Friday and Kourt Williams – came from the group of seven players (also including Julian Fleming and Ronnie Hickman) who were named Iron Buckeyes.

The other players on this year’s Iron Buckeye list aren’t surprising, either. Harrison and Egbuka are known for being two of the team’s biggest stars and two of its hardest workers. Ransom, Hamilton and Simon are all experienced defensive veterans who have often been praised for their work ethic and dedication to their craft. Trayanum is in just his second year as a Buckeye, but his chiseled physique shows the kind of worker he is in the weight room.

Harrison, Egbuka, Stover, Eichenberg, Ransom and Hamilton are all returning starters from last season. Simon and Trayanum aren‘t likely to be starters this year, with TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams leading the running back depth chart and Eichenberg and Steele Chambers leading the way at linebacker. Still, their Iron Buckeye honors certainly only help their chances of earning roles as rotational players.
