Lorenzo Styles Jr. Loses Black Stripe After 12 Practices As Ohio State Cornerback

Styles became one of the two latest Buckeyes to have his black stripe removed, along with redshirt freshman walk-on wide receiver David Adolph, following Wednesday’s 12th practice of preseason camp. His younger brother, second-year Ohio State safety Sonny Styles, had the honor of taking the stripe off of his older brother's helmet.

While Styles has two years of experience as a college football player at Notre Dame, he’s in his first year playing cornerback after making the switch with his transfer to Ohio State this summer. Even so, Styles has expressed determination to prove he can make an immediate impact on the Buckeyes’ defense.

“I think if I keep working and keep staying on the track that I’m on, I will see the field this year,” Styles said last week.

Styles becomes the third player to join the Buckeyes as a transfer this summer who has already lost his black stripe, joining former San Diego State offensive tackle Jimmy Simmons and former Ole Miss defensive tackle Tywone Malone. None of the freshmen who enrolled in the summer have had their stripes removed yet.
