Lee Corso's headgear tradition on College GameDay all started 27 years ago at Ohio State.
One of the most memorable traditions in college football over the years has been Lee Corso's headgear selection on GameDay every Saturday just before noon during the fall. Ahead of Corso's 400th selection, ESPN took a look back at how the tradition began prior to the Ohio State-Penn State game in Columbus on Oct. 5, 1996.

Kirk Herbstreit's wife, Alison, was a cheerleader at Ohio State and Corso brought up the idea to him, figuring that Herbstreit could use that connection to get Brutus' headgear. He did, and the tradition was born that day and has lived on ever since.
"He thought I might have some kind of in to try and get Brutus' headgear," Herbstreit recalled. "I'm telling you, it took three or four different back-and-forths until finally they green-lighted Brutus."
Corso has donned the Ohio State headgear more than any other team. The Buckeyes are 25-13 in his 38 times picking OSU with the last time being prior to the Peach Bowl, when Ohio State lost to Georgia in the College Football Playoff on Dec. 31, 2023.
