Ohio State will be without its top running back against Maryland.
TreVeyon Henderson is one of nine players listed as out on Ohio State’s status report for its post-bye week game against the Terrapins. It is unclear why Henderson will be unavailable for Saturday’s contest, as he played 50 snaps in Ohio State’s most recent game against Notre Dame and his injury has not been disclosed. Henderson was healthy enough to participate in pregame warmups and appeared to be running normally.
With Henderson unavailable, Chip Trayanum is likely in line to make his first career start for the Buckeyes. Trayanum operated as Ohio State’s No. 2 running back for the first four games of the season and scored the game-winning touchdown with a 1-yard run on the Buckeyes’ final offensive play against Notre Dame.
Miyan Williams, who has not yet had more than seven carries in a game this season, is also likely to play his biggest role of the season to date with Henderson out.
“Looking forward to getting Miyan going a little bit this week,” Ryan Day said Thursday on his radio show. “He's had a really good week of practice.”
The absence of Henderson, who leads Ohio State with 44 carries for 295 yards and five touchdowns this season, could also potentially open the door for Evan Pryor and/or Dallan Hayden to see some snaps at running back. Xavier Johnson, who has played snaps at both wide receiver and running back this year, gives Ohio State another option out of the backfield.
Henderson is the only starter who will be sidelined for Saturday’s game. The only other new additions to this week’s status report who weren’t on the status report for the Notre Dame game are backup cornerback Jyaire Brown and walk-on wide receiver Nolan Baudo.
Backup safety Cameron Martinez is available to play against Maryland after staying home from Notre Dame with an undisclosed injury. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is not listed on the status report and expected to play against Maryland despite suffering an ankle sprain while blocking for Henderson on a 61-yard touchdown run in South Bend.
