Social Reactions: Ohio State Plays a Bad Half of Football, Followed by a Good Half of Football, Which is Frustrating Math

Eventually Ryan Day and company are going to need to ask themselves if it's really worth it to speak a competent running game into existence.

There were mitigating factors, sure, but at no point in the 2023 season so far has Ohio State's running game looked anything more than a shade north of "competent", and for the most part has been an exercise in abject frustration. We'll spend the next week (or several weeks) talking about why that's the case, but my question on a Sunday morning is: is it worth it to even bother?

Like, I get that Ryan Day isn't going to turn this team into an Air Raid offense overnight. He isn't beholden to balance like some of his predecessors have been, but it's clear that he at least thinks the rushing game should be a thing. My argument is that it actually maybe shouldn't be, because you've got a talented quarterback and fifty dudes on the offense who are very good at catching passes all over the field, and the more creative you get with putting them in position to do so, the better the returns on your investment.

So, you know, screw it. Pass pass pass pass pass, then pass some more, because 1.9 yards per carry might as well be an incompletion at this point.

DAV PILKEY IS BETTER ANYWAY

THE REST

And that's it! Next week is Purdue, which maybe a third of us will actually be able to watch. See you (but not the game), then!
