Marvin Harrison Jr. and Josh Proctor Named Big Ten Players of the Week For Their Performances Against Maryland

On Monday, Harrison and Proctor received top honors from the conference after their standout performances in Ohio State's 37-17 win over Maryland. They are the second and third Buckeyes to be named a Big Ten Player of the Week in 2023, as safety Lathan Ransom was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his 13-tackle performance against Notre Dame in Week 4.

Harrison collected eight receptions (on 13 targets) for 163 yards and one touchdown on Saturday. All three statistics paced the Ohio State offense, as Emeka Egbuka (three receptions, 40 yards), Cade Stover (three receptions, 66 yards, one touchdown) and Julian Fleming (two receptions, 45 yards) were the three other Buckeyes to catch passes from quarterback Kyle McCord, who completed 19 of 29 passes for a career-high 320 yards and two scores.

Proctor was Ohio State's defensive leader on Saturday, recording seven tackles – the second-most stops behind Tommy Eichenberg (13) – with 1.5 tackles for loss and one interception. What's more, Proctor returned his interception for a touchdown, a score that put Ohio State on the board after it trailed Maryland 10-0 in the second quarter.

In his postgame press conference, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said he praised Proctor in the Buckeyes' locker-room celebration to recognize how well the sixth-year senior performed in the team's win.

“He's the best version of himself right now,” Day said. “The guy’s been through a lot of ups and downs, injuries, things like that. He’s playing his best football. He’s the best version of himself now. For us to get to where we need to be the next two months, we need him to play like that.”

Harrison, Proctor and Ransom are the three Ohio State players to win a Big Ten award in 2023. Last season, six Buckeyes earned a Big Ten Player of the Week award from the conference, including Harrison, quarterback C.J. Stroud (three times), linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, running back Miyan Williams, kicker Noah Ruggles and defensive end JT Tuimoloau.
