Ohio State showcased a new wrinkle against Purdue, and it resulted in an early career milestone for its backup quarterback.
As the Buckeyes faced a 3rd-and-1 on Purdue's 13-yard line, Devin Brown entered the game for Kyle McCord at quarterback.
Brown picked up the first down on a designed run to his left, then two plays later, scored a 2-yard touchdown to put Ohio State ahead 13-0 in the opening quarter. It was the first rushing touchdown of the redshirt freshman's career.

In total, Brown carried the ball twice for 10 yards and the score, with a run of 3 yards from Chip Trayanum intercutting the pair of carries.
The package with Brown as a running threat presents an interesting option for Ohio State going forward both in short-yardage and the red zone.
McCord re-entered the game on the Buckeyes' next drive. After he led the Buckeyes inside the 10-yard line, Brown entered once again.
After nearly throwing an interception on 1st-and-goal, Brown fumbled as he was crossing the goal line on 2nd-and-goal, resulting in a turnover.
