On the trade deadline day, Washington now has moved on from Young and Montez Sweat, once viewed as foundational players.
Young and Bosa were previously teammates at Ohio State in 2017 and 2018. They were set to be college football’s top defensive end tandem in 2018 until Bosa suffered a core muscle injury in Ohio State’s third game of that season against TCU that ended his final season as a Buckeye prematurely.
Now, Ohio State fans will get another chance to see what Bosa and Young can do together as a pass-rushing pair as Young joins Bosa, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, on one of the league’s top defenses.
Currently in his fourth NFL season, Young recorded 15 tackles with five sacks, six tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits and one pass deflection in seven games with the Commanders this season. He is in the final year of his rookie contract, which means the 49ers will need to sign Young to a contract extension to keep him from becoming a free agent after the season.
