The yearly award is given to the nation's best quarterback and is named after former TCU quarterback Davey O'Brien.
In his first year as a starter, McCord has thrown for 2,687 yards with 20 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes.
The other semifinalists are Carson Beck (Georgia), Brady Cook (Missouri), Jayden Daniels (LSU), Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss), Quinn Ewers (Texas), Dillon Gabriel (Oklahoma), Sam Hartman (Notre Dame), Drake Maye (North Carolina), J.J. McCarthy (Michigan), Jordan McCloud (James Madison), Jalen Milroe (Alabama), Bo Nix (Oregon), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington), Michael Pratt (Tulane), Kaidon Salter (Liberty), Shedeur Sanders (Colorado), Jordan Travis (Florida State), DJ Uiagalelei (Oregon State) and Caleb Williams (USC).
That list will be trimmed to three finalists on Nov. 28, with the winner chosen on Dec. 8. Finalists will be chosen based on voting from the award's National Selection Committee as well as bonus ballots awarded from the second round of the Davey O’Brien Fan Vote.
Fans can vote from now until Nov. 24 on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, with the top five vote-getters on each platform receiving bonus committee member ballots which will be added to the votes cast by the National Selection Committee.
