The No. 1-ranked recruit from Ohio is a Buckeye.
Aaron Scott Jr., the No. 34 overall prospect and No. 2 cornerback in the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports composite, put pen to paper on his National Letter of Intent to Ohio State, where he will add five-star talent to the Buckeyes’ roster and track speed to Tim Walton’s cornerback room.
Scott earned his Ohio State offer from head coach Ryan Day in June 2022. The Springfield, Ohio, native had traveled down I-70 to Columbus for an Ohio State camp at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. He became a standout performer at the event.

“Coach Day told me he liked my competitiveness,” Scott told Eleven Warriors after he received his offer. “He told me he wanted to grow our relationship and that he liked how fast and athletic I am. I could have just come to camp and watched, but I decided to do one-on-ones. They told me they loved how competitive I am.”
Scott and his parents, who are well-documented Ohio State football fans, were ecstatic that Scott could continue his football career with the Buckeyes.
“I grew up watching (the Buckeyes). My family grew up watching them. My dad was in a meeting when he heard about (the offer). He jumped up and got very excited,” Scott explained. “We’ve been talking about this for some time getting offered, and now it’s finally here. I’m blessed.”
Fourteen months later, on July 30, Scott committed to Ohio State.
Scott picked Ohio State over Michigan, Oregon and several other Division I schools. While a recruit choosing the Buckeyes over the Wolverines is already blissful for most Ohio State fans, Scott added some theatrics to his commitment that made Buckeye Nation pleased – well, pleased after all was said and done, at least.
When Scott committed, he held up a maize and blue backpack, seemingly making a pledge to Michigan. However, before he spoke a word, Scott pulled out a Braxton Miller Ohio State jersey from the backpack and announced he would commit to the Buckeyes.
At Ohio State, Scott’s elite size (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) will allow him to line up at inside or outside cornerback. He also possesses undeniable potential in the secondary for the Buckeyes in this class. As a track athlete and basketball star, he features an excellent background as an all-around athlete.
When Scott will make his Ohio State debut remains to be seen, considering the Buckeyes have Davison Igbinosun returning and both Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock considering NFL draft departures. Jermaine Mathews Jr., who impressed as a freshman All-American, according to College Football Network, will also battle Calvin Simpson-Hunt for reps. Both Mathews and Simpson-Hunt were top 60 recruits in the 2023 class.
That said, Scott will face resistance in his efforts to earn early reps in Walton’s cornerback room. Still, he has a five-star pedigree. That, combined with the size, athleticism and ball skills, should provide him with an excellent chance to seize a starting role in due time.
