Jeremiah Smith took another Ohio State freshman receiving record from Cris Carter in the Rose Bowl.

With a 16-yard catch in the third quarter, Smith set the Buckeyes' freshman single-game receiving yardage record with 187 against Oregon in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal. The mark surpassed Carter's freshman best of 172 yards, which also came in the Rose Bowl against USC in 1985 following the 1984 season.

Smith already broke all three of Carter's freshman receiving marks – that's receptions, yards and touchdowns – earlier in 2024. He entered the game against the Ducks with 63 receptions for 1,037 yards and 12 touchdowns, all team-highs.

The Florida native picked up two 40-yard-plus touchdowns in the first half, first a 45-yard catch-and-run on a slide route then a 43-yard deep bomb up the right sideline. He gathered 161 yards in an electric first half.
