Ohio State has touched down in Atlanta for the College Football Playoff national championship game.
Taking a charter flight with United Airlines to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the Buckeyes’ 2024 football squad climbed down a jetway and boarded buses to travel to their team hotel. Eleven Warriors took a video of the arrival, which you can watch at the top of the page.
After the plane landed and his team disembarked, Ohio State coach Ryan Day met with the media for some brief remarks. While he told his team the travel offered a moment to reflect on the highs and lows of a long season, the plan is to approach the next few days the same way the Buckeyes approached their victories in the Rose and Cotton Bowls, taking the first evening in town to take in their surroundings before diving into preparation with a full focus.
"Guys will take care of their bodies, and they'll wake up in the morning and have a typical Thursday practice plan for us, so meetings, walk-throughs," Day said. "Practice over at Mercedes-Benz, come back and watch the film and have a full day, but it's all about preparation, and I think that's what we all understand.”
Ryan Day said he can “feel the momentum” Ohio State has entering the national championship game, believing the Buckeyes have gotten better week in and week out. He still doesn’t think the Buckeyes have played the best football they’re capable of, though, and he thinks they need to in order to beat Notre Dame on Monday.
“When you have momentum, you've got to keep it. I feel like we've continued to get stronger as the season's gone on. We've had a plan on how we were going to do that, and so now, again, we have to be at our best,” Day said. “The whole plan has been to get to this point right now, and so we have a couple more days to get prepared to go do it.”
The CFP national championship game between Ohio State and Notre Dame kicks off at 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta on Monday and is set to be televised by ESPN.
