Ohio State holds off Notre Dame, 34-23, to win the program's ninth national championship.
A second-quarter incompletion targeted for TreVeyon Henderson closed the book on a record-breaking start to the College Football Playoff national championship game for Will Howard.
Howard came out of the gates with relentless precision against Notre Dame, connecting on each of his first 13 passes to set a CFP title game record for consecutive completions. The previous record was 12, set by Alabama quarterback Mac Jones against Ohio State in the 2021 CFP national championship game.
There were some dimes dropped among those 13. He moved the chains on two separate 3rd-and-7s on Ohio State's final drive of the first half with darts to Brandon Inniss and Carnell Tate, respectively. He hit a total of six different receivers across the 13 completions, spreading the ball effectively in the Buckeyes' offense.
Howard finished the first half 14-of-15 (93.3%) for 144 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers, plus another 26 rushing yards, moving the chains four times with his legs. After his completions streak finally ended, he made a fantastic play scrambling to his right to connect with Quinshon Judkins for a 6-yard touchdown. It gave Ohio State a 21-7 lead going into halftime.
SO NICE, HE HAD TO DO IT TWICE
