Quinshon Judkins and Ohio State's offensive line set a College Football Playoff national championship game record in a flash to start the second half.

Judkins took a handoff on a counter play with Emeka Egbuka pulling and saw a canyon before him thanks to powerful blocks by guards Tegra Tshabola and Luke Montgomery. He obliged their efforts by zooming 70 yards to Notre Dame's 5-yard line.

The Ole Miss transfer polished off Ohio State's first drive of the second half with a 1-yard run, his third total touchdown of the game. That put the Buckeyes ahead 28-7 just 2:24 into the third quarter.

Judkins and backfield mate TreVeyon Henderson also became the first Ohio State running back duo to surpass 1,000 yards since Archie Griffin and Pete Johnson in 1975 with the jaunt. Quarterback Braxton Miller and running back Carlos Hyde also both rushed for 1,000 yards in 2013. Judkins entered Monday with 183 carries for 960 yards (5.2 yards per carry) and 12 touchdowns.
