With the field still covered in confetti from Ohio State's national championship celebration, Eleven Warriors editor Dan Hope and reporters Andy Anders and Chase Brown recapped the team's win over Notre Dame.
Now a winner of nine national titles all-time, the Buckeyes took the first blow in the contest, allowing the Irish to record an 18-play, 75-yard scoring drive on their opening possession, one which took almost 10 minutes off the clock. Ohio State responded with touchdowns on each of their first four drives, scoring 31 unanswered points to pull out to a massive lead. Notre Dame didn't go down without a fight, scoring touchdowns on two of its final four complete drives to keep the game interesting, but the Buckeyes were able to celebrate their championship on the sidelines with 26 seconds left after Jayden Fielding nailed a 33-yard field goal that gave the Buckeyes a 34-23 lead.
Those sidelines featured abundant emotion from players and coaches alike. The program that suffered a midseason loss to Oregon and an end-of-season loss to Michigan responded with wins over No. 9 Tennessee, No. 1 Oregon, No. 5 Texas and No. 7 Notre Dame en route to its College Football Playoff title, completely changing the narrative that had surrounded Ryan Day and the Buckeyes after their loss in The Game and becoming legends in the process.
Hope, Anders and Brown broke down the roller-coaster season that culminated with a national championship on After Carmen, Eleven Warriors’ official postgame show. They also discuss the impact this year's title will have on Ryan Day's legacy in Columbus, as well as the legacies of the fourth- and fifth-year seniors who returned for another season in search of hardware with the Buckeyes and completed that goal on Monday night.
