Brown, a former top 50 recruit, spent three seasons in Columbus. Hes one of the top available QBs in the @247SportsPortal rankings.https://t.co/MmZI0qSols pic.twitter.com/B8mmG531pM
Brown will be the frontrunner to start for the Golden Bears next season following the departure of their 2024 starting quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, who transferred to Indiana. The Golden Bears also added highly touted freshman quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele, who transferred to Cal after briefly enrolling at Oregon.
Brown spent three seasons at Ohio State, serving as the Buckeyes’ No. 2 quarterback for the past two years behind Kyle McCord in 2023 and Will Howard in 2024. Had he stayed at Ohio State, he would have faced the possibility of being the Buckeyes’ backup again as redshirt freshman Julian Sayin is viewed as the frontrunner to start for Ohio State in 2025.
Brown entered the transfer portal in December but remained with the Buckeyes for the duration of their national championship run.
“I just sat down with my family and sat down with the coaches and figured out what was best. We came up with that decision for me to figure out somewhere else,” Brown told Eleven Warriors at Rose Bowl media day in December. “But at the same time, I made a promise to this team and I made a promise to these coaches coming back after the Cotton Bowl (last year) that I was gonna help them go win these games and go finish out the season the right way. So I wanted to stick to my word.”
Ohio State is currently set to have three scholarship quarterbacks for the 2025 season: Sayin, redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz and five-star freshman Tavien St. Clair.
