Is Caleb Downs actually going to play on offense?

Ryan Day made a surprising revelation during his press conference on Tuesday when he said Ohio State is considering the possibility of giving Downs some snaps at running back. While Downs’ primary role will be starting at free safety for the Buckeyes, Day said Downs has been in some meetings and individual drills with the running back and that Ohio State is considering finding ways to use him on offense – a conversation Ohio State has had with Downs dating back to when he was a high school recruit.

While Day’s comments certainly gave opposing defenses something else to think about, Ohio State will have to decide whether it’s worth the risk to utilize Downs on offense and have him play more snaps when he’s expected to be the best safety in the country.

Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope and Andy Anders talked about the possibility of Downs becoming a two-way player and the factors Ohio State will have to consider before using him on offense in a fresh episode of Press Coverage.

Andy and Dan also talked about Day’s other newsworthy comments from Tuesday’s press conference including the decision not to add an offensive lineman in the post-spring transfer window, the position battles that will continue into preseason camp and his decision not to comment on the departure of former recruiting staffer Erin Dunston for Michigan.
