With one week left in the preseason, Ohio State's starting lineup is becoming clearer.
In a brief press conference on Thursday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day named Nick McLarty as the team's starting punter against Akron. He also said Tegra Tshabola has "earned the right to play" at right guard and called Sonny Styles the "leader in the clubhouse" to start at Will linebacker next to Cody Simon.
That said, Ohio State's starters for the 2024 season opener appear to be all but finalized, with TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins both expected to play plenty at running back and Gee Scott Jr. and Will Kacmarek both expected to see substantial snaps at tight end. The Buckeyes will also have decisions to make at kick returner and punt returner, with a collection of talent available to handle those duties.
In addition to his roster updates, Day said Ohio State's offensive line should be the "best in the country" year in and year out. He expects the Buckeyes to meet that standard this season as Josh Simmons, Donovan Jackson and Josh Fryar return as starters next to Alabama transfer Seth McLaughlin and either Tshabola or Carson Hinzman.
Following Day's press conference, Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye met with the media, as did eight players from his position room. Each of those Buckeyes addressed their expectations for the offensive line this season and the importance that unit could serve as Ohio State pursues its first national championship in a decade.
