Ohio State is bringing an “intensity and applying pressure” mindset into its third game of the season against Marshall.
After rapping to his players on Friday about competing to earn “them all you can eat biscuits,” Ohio State secondary coach Tim Walton was the featured assistant coach at Saturday’s Skull Session and challenged the Buckeyes and their fans to bring intensity and put as much pressure as possible on the Thundering Herd on Saturday afternoon
“We have to do that on offense, defense, special teams and with the crowd noise today,” Walton said. “Let's make sure it's the loudest team in the country and make it really uncomfortable for Marshall playing in the Shoe today. Make it very uncomfortable for them playing in the Shoe today. You apply pressure, you receive it. Let’s apply a lot of pressure. Pressure busts pipes.”
Ohio State cornerback Denzel Burke, meanwhile, shared another message that Ryan Day shared with the team this week: “Chase, pace and pull.”
“We're chasing to be the hardest, violent, most disciplined team in the country. We're pacing, take it one weekend and one game at a time to get 1% better. And to pull – pull a young guy with us this year, and you never know when their time may come, and they got to be ready when their name is called,” Burke said. “And I'm just ready to show you guys this Saturday what we've been doing all week, how hard we've been practicing the week that we missed last week. We're just ready to get back in the Shoe.”
Ryan Day implored his team to get out to another fast start as the Buckeyes look to follow up their 56-0 win over Western Michigan with another dominant performance in their final non-conference game of the regular season.
“We got to have a fast start today,” Day said. “We talk about grading out a champion and being the hardest-playing team in the country. Grading out a champion is simple: Do your job. Kickers gotta kick. Cornerbacks gotta cover. Band’s gotta play. Fans gotta be loud.
Offensive and defensive line gotta knock people back. And then we gotta be the hardest-playing team in the country. What does that look like? Intensity. Bunch of guys flying around with a bad attitude. You're going to see that today.”
