Big Ten play is here and Ryan Day is in a serious mood.
Although Ohio State won decisively in its first three games of the season against Akron, Western Michigan and Marshall, Day and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles made it clear on Tuesday that they aren’t satisfied with the team’s performance so far as the Buckeyes prepare to begin Big Ten play against Michigan State this weekend.
“You start to feel good about something and complacency can sneak up on you fast. So nobody feels good about anything,” Day said Tuesday.
Specifically, Ohio State is looking for more out of its backup defensive tackles as Tyleik Williams remains “day-to-day,” though Tywone Malone was a bright spot against Marshall. Surprisingly, Aidan Chiles’ name didn’t come up once in Tuesday’s press conference – probably in part because the Michigan State quarterback has already thrown seven interceptions, which could be something the Buckeyes can take advantage of in what will otherwise be the toughest test they’ve faced so far this season.
Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope and Andy Anders share all of their top takeaways from Tuesday’s press conference and give their initial thoughts on the Ohio State vs. Michigan State matchup on a new episode of Press Coverage.
